A manager told me my status updates were "too honest" and it fixed my whole week
Two jobs ago my manager pulled me aside after a Friday standup and told me my updates were "too honest" because I kept saying things were fine when they were not. At first I was annoyed, but she asked me to try one thing: lead with the problem instead of the progress. So the next Monday I opened with "the vendor feed is broken and I need help" and three people jumped in within 10 minutes. Turns out being vague was costing me days of silent struggle. Has anyone else gotten feedback that sounded like an insult but was actually good advice?
