Strapping down a Kia Soul through 90 mph crosswinds last week

Last Tuesday I was hauling a Kia Soul from Denver to Salt Lake and hit some gnarly crosswinds near the Wyoming border. I use those ratchet straps with the rubber padding, but the car still shifted about 2 inches on the trailer, rough. Anybody else double-strap the front axle on lighter cars, or am I just being paranoid?
