Rant: Lost a bumper on I-40 and the carrier never told me

Hauled a 2018 Civic from Nashville to Little Rock last week, paid $780 upfront, and when it arrived the front bumper was hanging off. The driver said it was fine at pickup, but I checked the photos from the loading dock at 6 AM and it was already cracked. How do you verify damage before signing off when the carrier rushes you through the checklist?
