Driver showed up at my place in Tucson with a dead winch and left my car sitting in the street
Hired a guy off a quote site to move my 2011 Civic from Tucson to Portland. Pickup was set for a Thursday morning, 9am. He shows up at 11 with a trailer that looked like it barely survived the trip. We get the car halfway up the ramp and his winch just stops. Dead. He stands there poking at the cable for 20 minutes saying it worked fine in Phoenix.
Then he tells me he has to leave it in the street and come back with a different truck. I said no way, my HOA fines people for that. So he calls some buddy and an hour later a second guy rolls up with a come along and they drag it up by hand. Took forever and I could hear the bumper scraping.
Car made it to Portland but with a nice scratch down the front bumper that nobody wants to claim. The broker said the driver said it was pre existing. It was not.
So what do you all do about proof before pickup? I took like two photos from far away. Do you make them sign a sheet showing damage? Do you video the whole walk around? Trying to not get burned next time.
