Booked a open trailer spot for my Civic from Phoenix to Denver and saved $400 by just asking the dispatcher if they had a partial load
I called three brokers who all quoted around $900 for the 800 mile haul, then the fourth one mentioned they had a truck heading to Aurora with one empty slot, so I asked if they'd take $500 cash to fill it and he said yes on the spot, has anyone else had luck just asking for the leftover space instead of booking a full run?

The partial load thing works way more often than people realize, especially on routes where trucks are already heading your direction and just need to fill dead space. I've used that same move on a couple moves and the key is being ready to pay cash and load on short notice because those slots go fast. Just make sure you get the pickup and drop details in writing first so there's no surprise fees when the trailer shows up.
