A broker in Houston told me my quotes were way too low and I almost lost a contract

I was quoting $800 for a 1,200 mile sedan transport and thought I was competitive. A broker I work with said 'you'll never get a carrier at that rate, you're costing yourself money and losing drivers.' Now I price my routes based on actual fuel and deadhead costs, has anyone else had to adjust their quotes after getting feedback like this?

$800 for 1,200 miles? You might as well just mail them the keys.
