Worst camping trip ever when my tent collapsed at 2am in the pouring rain at Yosemite

I spent 20 minutes frantically trying to re-pitch a soaked tent with a broken pole while my friend just laughed and stayed dry under a tarp, has anyone else had a gear failure ruin an entire night like that?

I read somewhere that something like 30% of tent failures happen because people don't practice setting them up before the actual trip. I mean, not that it would have helped much with a broken pole in the rain. That sounds rough though.

At least my tent didn't fail on the first practice setup in my living room.
