Vent: I've switched to video clips for my stove reviews... here's why

I used to just write about my camping gear... but lately, folks want to see it work. So I began taking short phone videos when I test things like stoves or lanterns. My tip is to keep the camera steady and show the whole process from start to finish. For example, with my new backpacking stove, I filmed it lighting up in windy conditions. That clip got more helpful replies than my long written post ever did. Now I make sure every review has a quick video... it just makes sense.

How do you even get decent lighting for those close-up shots? I tried filming my rain jacket review last week and it just looked like a sad, gray blob. Your point about steady footage is so true though. I used to just wave my phone around and wonder why nobody could tell what I was showing.

Remember my buddy who had the same gray blob issue as @sandra_black?

I mean, it's wild how we all skip the basic setup sometimes and then wonder why things turn out poorly. Like with videos, just a little attention to lighting or keeping the camera still fixes so much. Maybe it's just me, but I notice this pattern with lots of simple chores now too.
