Unpopular opinion: my $200 sleeping bag was the problem, not my pad

Two nights at Rocky Mountain National Park in July, 38 degrees, shivering in a 20 degree bag, and the guy in the next site said "that bag's older than your truck, the loft is shot" so now I'm stuck between dropping $300 on a new down bag or just doubling up with a cheap quilt, and I can't decide which way to go.
