TIL my 20 year old tent poles needed a simple fix

I always figured old tent poles were done after enough seasons. Then I read a post on a hiking forum about cleaning the ferrules with alcohol and applying a thin coat of silicone spray. Did it to my REI Half Dome 2 last Saturday in Denver and the poles slid together way smoother than they have in years. Has anyone else tried reconditioning poles instead of buying a new tent?

Been there with old gear, feels great when a cheap fix brings it back to life.
