That $200 sleeping pad I returned after one night in Shenandoah

Honestly, last month I went camping in Shenandoah National Park and brought this fancy inflatable sleeping pad I'd just bought for $200. I figured the higher R-value and weight savings would be worth it, but nope. First night, I woke up at 2 AM on the ground because it slowly deflated. I checked for leaks with soapy water the next morning and found a tiny hole near the valve. Ended up returning it to REI and grabbed a $50 foam pad instead. It's bulkier, sure, but I've used it four times since and slept fine every night. Has anyone else shelled out big money on a pad that just failed on them?

Did you check if REI would've swapped it out instead of just taking the return? Man, that sucks - nothing worse than dropping that kind of cash and waking up on the cold hard ground.

Does sleeping on the ground one time really count as “nothing worse”? Pretty sure there's way worse things than being a little cold for one night.
