My tent zipper broke in a downpour at Lake Tahoe

I was camping at Fallen Leaf Lake last October when a big storm rolled in. The main door zipper on my three person tent just gave out halfway up. I had to use a carabiner and some paracord to hold the flap shut for two nights. It was a real mess. Anyone have a good fix for a busted coil zipper in the field?

Fallen Leaf is by Tahoe, but not in it.

That carabiner trick is a solid field fix, better than trying a real repair. A busted coil zipper needs a sewing machine and new parts, not a patch job. You just need to make it home without your gear getting soaked.
