My brother said his cheap camp stove was fine until a storm in the Smokies

He told me his $20 stove sputtered out in heavy rain, leaving him with cold food for a night. That story made me rethink my own gear choices, especially for bad weather. What's a solid, affordable stove you've trusted when it really started pouring?

My cousin's cheap tent flooded in a drizzle, so now I just won't skimp on anything that keeps the weather out.

Know exactly what you mean, and it's part of a bigger thing where we buy the cheap version for a hobby we're just trying out. Your brother's story is the perfect example of that gamble not paying off when conditions get real. I've had great luck with a basic canister stove that has a built in windshield, it just handles wind and drizzle so much better without breaking the bank. That one rough night is always the push to get gear you don't have to worry about.
