I finally caved and bought a $90 'ultra-light' camp stove last spring.

Took it on a three-day hike in the Smokies and the pot support legs bent completely out of shape the first time I boiled water. I mean, it was basically useless after that. Has anyone else had a stove fail that fast, and what did you replace it with?

Man, that's rough. I had a stove snap a leg off on a trip once and it totally ruined the vibe. I ended up getting a solid brass one that's a little heavier, but it's a tank, kind of like what allen.ruby's friend found. That thing has been through hell and still works perfect.

My last stove folded faster than my camping plans.

Heard a similar story from a buddy who bought one of those fancy titanium stoves. The whole thing just folded up like a cheap lawn chair on its first trip, left him eating cold beans for two days. He got so mad he went back to a basic steel one from a garage sale, says it weighs a bit more but you could probably drive over it. Makes you wonder what they're thinking with some of this ultra-light stuff.
