Got yelled at by a ranger at Yellowstone for using a gas camp stove in a fire ring that was clearly marked no-stove

I was just trying to heat up my coffee before dawn and the guy came out of nowhere, said I could have burned down half the campsite because of the dry brush right underneath, and now I double-check every single sign and ground condition before I even unpack my stove canister - has anyone else had a ranger shut down your morning brew?

Buddy of mine got the same treatment at Glacier over a camp stove.

Wow. That's messed up, @troy977. I get that rangers have a job to do but going after someone for a camp stove feels like a lot. They must have been having a slow day or something because that's just common gear. I've seen people get hassled for stupid stuff like an extra fuel canister before too. It makes you wonder if some of them are just looking for a reason to write tickets. Either way, your buddy got a raw deal for sure.
