Got a $40 tent repair kit for a hole I could've fixed with duct tape
Picked up that fancy repair kit at REI last month for a dime-sized tear in my tent fly. Spent 20 minutes patching it with the special glue and fabric. Then my buddy showed up, used duct tape on his tear, and his held up fine all weekend in the rain. Mine started peeling by day two. Lesson learned: don't overthink simple fixes. Has anyone else had better luck with those kits or am I just bad at applying them?

Funny story, I spent THREE HOURS trying to use that same kit on a sleeping pad patch and it still leaked. Duct tape has been holding up on a old camp chair for two years now. Sometimes the expensive gear is just for show.

Three hours on a sleeping pad patch? That's not a repair, that's a hostage situation. Must be nice having that kind of patience to waste on something a strip of tape could've fixed in thirty seconds. At least your camp chair knows what loyalty looks like.
