Freezer bag trick from a ranger in Glacier saved my camp stove

A park ranger at Glacier told me to triple-bag my stove fuel and keep it in a freezer bag before packing. Thought it was overkill until my buddy's isobutane canister leaked on day 2 and ruined his whole pack. That freezer bag cost 50 cents and kept my gear dry for the full 6 day hike. Anyone else get weird advice from rangers that actually worked?

Funny you mention that. A ranger in Yosemite once told me to put my socks in a Ziploc and freeze them before a winter trip, said it would keep my feet warmer. Turned out he meant for me to boil them and use them as a hot water bottle in my sleeping bag, but I misunderstood and just froze them solid. Wore them the next morning and my feet went numb in like ten minutes. Spent the whole day walking like a penguin trying to get feeling back. Still use the boiled sock trick every winter now though, works way better than those fancy chemical warmers. Rangers just know stuff, even when they're not explaining it right.
