Finally spent $90 on a better sleeping pad and my back actually thanked me

I was using a $30 foam pad for years on my weekend trips up near Payson and waking up stiff as a board every morning. Switched to a self-inflating pad with decent R-value last month and I actually slept through the night for the first time in forever. Anyone else hold onto cheap gear way too long before upgrading?

Used to think spending that much on a pad was crazy talk honestly. I was out there with my twenty dollar walmart special thinking I was being smart with money. But after two seasons of waking up with my hips digging into the dirt I finally gave in and grabbed a thermarest. First night out near Sedona I actually woke up feeling rested instead of counting down the minutes until sunrise. My old cheap pad felt like sleeping on a folded tarp, the new one actually has some give to it. Not saying everybody needs to drop that kind of cash but for me it was a total game changer.

Well Lucas63 I hear you, but I still see it a different way. My old foam pad from the army surplus store has done me fine for years, and I've slept on everything from granite slabs to hard packed snow without much complaint. A good nights sleep is nice, but I think some of us get by just fine without spending a hundred bucks on something that inflates.
