DAE notice people rate sleeping pads by R-value but never check if the pad actually fits their tent floor?
I keep seeing gear reviews where someone gives a pad five stars and never once mentions the footprint. Last month I grabbed a wide pad for my two person tent in Flagstaff and it overlapped the door flap by about 4 inches, so every time I got up at 2am to pee I woke my buddy because the pad bunched the floor fabric. The pad itself was great, warm and quiet, but it turned our tent into a wrestling match for three nights. I measured it after we got home and the thing was 25 inches wide while my tent floor tapers to 20 at the foot. Reviews almost never list the tapered width at the ends, only the max width in the middle. Now I bring a tape measure to the store like a weirdo and the staff at REI in Phoenix just watches me. What's the widest pad you all have squeezed into a tapered floor without it spilling over the door?
