Bought a $5 tarp from Walmart and it lasted one night in the rain

Last summer at a campsite in the Smokies, a guy told me 'spend the extra $15 on a tarp with taped seams or youll wake up wet,' and after that night I totally get it now, anyone else had a cheap tarp fail on them?

Did you check the seams before you bought it, or just grab the cheapest one and hope?

And if you do check the seams, run your hand along the inside too... that's where they hide the shoddy stitching on the cheap ones.
