Watching camera repair change over 30 years

I started fixing cameras back in 85 and back then it was all mechanical shutters and levers. Last week a guy brought in a mirrorless camera with a circuit board the size of a postage stamp and I had to pull out my microscope just to see the solder points. Anyone else feel like they are becoming more of a computer tech than a camera repairman these days?

The F3 was actually the first camera I ever repaired back in 87 and I used to think digital was just a fad for hobbyists. @zara_perez62 you mentioning the flex cables really hit home, I had a Sony A7III last month where the main flex was torn in a spot i couldn't even see without magnification. Getting that hot air station changed everything for me too, but I still miss the days when a screwdriver and a little oil was all you needed.

I had a Nikon F3 come in last week next to a Sony A7R and it honestly hit me how different the work is now. My microscope used to gather dust now I grab it for almost every digital body that crosses my bench. What helped me was getting a good hot air rework station and some of those little brass tweezers for surface mount parts. Keep your eyes on the flex cables too, they tear way easier than the old ribbon wires ever did.
