Just got a batch of five Pentax K1000s from a local school with shutter blades all gummed up with the same weird, sticky grease.
That whole Thursday was just me at the bench with a bottle of naphtha and a pile of cotton swabs, wondering if anyone else has seen this specific issue pop up lately.

Try lighter fluid and a toothbrush, that stuff cuts right through old grease.

Lighter fluid seems like a lot for some kitchen grease. Isn't that stuff pretty harsh? I just use some dish soap and hot water, maybe a bit of baking soda. It gets the job done without needing a trip to the hardware store. Maybe it's just me but I don't keep lighter fluid around for cleaning.

Huh, I once used lighter fluid to get pine sap off a dog. Worked weirdly well.
