Hot take: Flushing leaf shutters while assembled beats full teardown

Most repair folks insist on taking leaf shutters all apart to clean them. I found you can flush them with a bit of solvent and a small brush while they are still together. This method cuts my work time by a lot and I have not had any shutter come back with issues. It might sound lazy, but it works and keeps tiny parts from getting lost.

Nah, that's just smart. I've flushed a dozen old Compurs and Prontors with a little naphtha and a soft brush. The old grease turns to gunk and bakes in there. A full tear down for a basic clean is often overkill and risks bending a blade. If the timing is off or something is broken, sure, take it apart. But for a simple clean? Don't fix what isn't broken.

Wait you're using naphtha for that? The fumes alone would knock me out lol.

My old Agfa Isolette shutter was totally gummed up. Flushed it with lighter fluid and a paintbrush, works like new now. Honestly, some techs just love making simple jobs complicated.
