A collector's comment about my shutter speeds changed my testing habit

Last month a guy brought in a 1960s rangefinder for a CLA and asked if I actually verified the speeds with a timer or just by ear. He said he could hear my 1/1000th was dragging. I checked with my shutter tester and sure enough it was off by almost half a stop. Now I run every camera through the timer before I hand it back, even if the cleaning went smooth. Has anyone else had a customer catch something like that and make you rethink your routine?
