Zip ties vs velcro for under desk cable trays, I got burned and want your take
I zip tied everything under my desk in Chicago last month and when I needed to swap out a dead ethernet cable it took me 20 minutes with scissors and I cut two other wires by mistake. Now I'm team velcro, but my buddy says zip ties just look cleaner so he won't switch. Which side are you on and did a cable swap ever make you regret your setup?
I saw a Linus Tech Tips video where he tested this exact thing and said zip ties save you maybe 10 seconds on install but cost you 20 minutes later when you need to change something. That pretty much settles it for me, velcro wins every time. The cleaner look argument is weak too, because you can get black velcro straps that look just as tidy if you cut them to length right. I did the zip tie thing for years until I swapped a monitor and had to cut the whole bundle apart, which is basically your ethernet story all over again. The whole point of a cable setup is being able to fix it later, and zip ties fight you every step of the way. Tell your buddy he's wrong and that looking clean doesn't matter if you gotta destroy it to change one cable lol.
