Tried zip ties vs those velcro straps behind my desk, no contest
I redid the whole nest behind my desk in my apartment in Denver last Sunday using velcro straps instead of the zip ties I'd used for two years. The velcro ones let me swap my monitor cable in about 30 seconds when I got a new one, while the zip ties always meant cutting everything loose and starting over. I'm honestly not going back, even if the velcro roll cost me $9 at the hardware store. Anyone got a trick for keeping the straps from sliding down the desk leg?
Two years of zip ties? I can't even wrap my head around that. Every time you needed to swap a cable you had to cut the whole run open and start from scratch, that sounds like a nightmare. I used zip ties once behind my TV and when I moved the thing I just gave up and left half of them hanging there. Nine bucks for a roll of velcro is nothing if it saves you from that mess. As for the sliding thing, try sticking a small piece of velcro on the desk leg itself so the strap has something to grab.
