My roommate's "temporary" zip tie job is still haunting me 2 years later

I walked into our shared office last week and saw he had just wrapped 3 power strips together with a single zip tie around the middle, no slack or anything. When I asked about it he just said "it works fine, don't touch it." I finally cut it off yesterday and found the cables had worn through the insulation in two spots from rubbing together. Has anyone else dealt with a roommate who refuses basic cable management?

...and that's when I realized my roommate had been using the same zip tie to hold together like 5 different extension cords for over a year. I only noticed because I tripped on it one night and the whole thing came crashing down. The zip tie had actually melted into the cords from heat buildup, it was so gross. He just shrugged and said "well it worked till now." I ended up buying him a proper cable management box just so I wouldn't have to look at that mess anymore. Some people really just don't care about fire hazards until it's too late I guess.

the zip tie melting into the cords is seriously terrifying, @lilyfisher, how did he not smell that?
