Changed my mind about those sticky cable clips after seeing a desk photo from 6 months ago

I used to think those little adhesive cable clips were junk. Like they'd just fall off after a week or leave a sticky mess (which honestly some of them do). But my buddy Dave sent me a before photo of his home desk setup from last January and an after photo he took yesterday. The before was a nightmare of loose cords everywhere under his monitor stand. The after had these neat little white clips holding every single cable against the underside of his desk in a straight line. He used the ones that you can open and close again, not the permanent snap-in type. That one photo convinced me they actually work if you clean the surface first with rubbing alcohol. Has anyone else had good luck with a specific brand of those reusable clips?

That Youtube channel "Setup Wars" did a whole episode on desk cable management and they tested like 8 brands of those clips. The ones that held the best were the silicone loop kind that have a little ball on the end so cords can't slip out. But they said the key step everyone skips is wiping the surface with isopropyl alcohol and letting it dry for a full 5 minutes before sticking anything on. The adhesive needs a clean dry surface or it just peels off when the room gets warm. I tried it with some cheap ones from Amazon and they have stayed put for 3 months now under my desk. The reusable ones you mentioned are the way to go because the permanent ones are a nightmare if you ever want to rearrange your setup.

Oh man, the alcohol wipe thing is legit the biggest game changer nobody talks about... I used to get so frustrated when my clips would fall off after a week, thought I was just buying junk. But then I tried prepping the surface like that and it actually makes a huge difference. The 5 minute wait feels like forever when you're excited to set things up but if you rush it the adhesive just doesn't bond right. And yeah the permanent ones are a total trap, I had to scrape one off with a putty knife once and it left this nasty residue that took forever to clean. The silicone loop ones with the ball end are smart too because cords can still slide through if you need to add or remove something later.
