Unpopular opinion: I was dead set against fiber splices for ground bonding until a job in Cleveland last spring changed my mind.

My old mentor swore by mechanical connectors for everything, but after fixing a ground loop that took out three amplifiers in a 12-unit building I'm starting to wonder if the fusion splice is actually more reliable long term what have you all seen on multi-dwelling installations?

Three amplifiers? That's not a ground loop, that's a bonfire waiting to happen. I've seen fusion splices hold up way better in multi-dwelling buildings where you're fighting weird stray voltages and poor grounding from old electrical. Cleveland in the spring has to be the worst possible time to learn that lesson though - wet ground and frozen conduit make everything ten times harder.

Heard similar from a sparky in Toledo, and @drew_west nailed it about the stray voltages.
