Rant: Saw a crew running aerial cable without proper lashing in downtown Austin
I was down on 6th Street last Tuesday grabbing lunch and watched a crew run a new line off a telephone pole. They were just zipping it along without any lashing, just loose spans between poles. That stuff will sag like crazy in the Texas heat and cause a short within six months. Has anyone else noticed crews cutting corners like this on jobs lately?

Yep, saw the same thing on South Lamar last month, cable just flapping in the breeze like nobody cared.

That "loose spans between poles" thing you mentioned is exactly what gets me. I've seen whole blocks of cable that look like someone strung a wet clothesline between telephone poles in the summer. The heat wave last August probably made it a hundred times worse. Those unsupported spans just cook and stretch out in the sun until they're practically touching the power lines below. Guarantee you that crew is coming back in six months to redo it, but by then they've already got their check cashed.
