Chatted with a security system guy and it changed how I run coax

I was on a job last Tuesday and ran into an old timer who does security camera installs. He saw me pulling coax through a drop ceiling and asked why I wasn't using a fish tape with a glow rod. I told him I always just use a regular fish tape and he laughed. He said the glow rods save your back because you don't have to bend over so much trying to see where the tape is going. I tried it on my next job and he was right. It cut my time by about 15 minutes per run. Has anyone else tried switching tools just because a guy in another trade gave you advice?

Man, I hear you loud and clear on this one! It's funny how someone from a totally different trade can just drop a piece of wisdom that changes everything. I had a similar thing happen with a plumber who showed me a trick for pulling wire through tight spaces, and I honestly felt a little dumb for not thinking of it myself. Those little tips really add up when you're doing runs all day, and saving your back is always a win. Have you noticed any other tricks from other trades that you've picked up along the way?

Oh man @sandra_black, have you ever had a drywaller show you a trick for patching holes that changed your whole approach?
