A crawl space flood in Cincinnati made me rethink my cable routing strategy

I had to re-run 300 feet of RG6 after a pipe burst, and now I'm debating if it's worth the extra time to always use overhead paths. What's your take on routing priority: speed or long-term protection?

I mean, shane838 is right about water always winning. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather be bored for an hour running cable overhead than be mad for a whole weekend fixing a flood mess.

Oh man, do I feel this. My basement decided to become a swimming pool last spring and took out a whole network drop. Spent two full days drying things out and re-running wire. That "extra hour" for overhead routing feels like a vacation compared to that mess. Speed is great until you're on your back in six inches of muddy water. I'm never taking the low route again if I can help it.

That "rethink my cable routing strategy" line hits hard. I've been there with a soaked crawl space. The extra hour to run cable through joists or along a basement ceiling is nothing compared to a weekend spent redoing it. Water always wins, so overhead is the only safe bet if you have the option.
