Vent: spent 3 hours chasing a level issue on a built in that was 1/16 off
I kept checking my level against the same spot on the wall not realizing the floor had a slow slope. Has anyone else fought a problem that long just because you assumed the reference point was true?

The real gut punch is when you figure it out and realize how much time you wasted. @skyler20 makes a good point about checking multiple spots, but what about when the laser itself gets bumped slightly? That happened to me once where the laser was off by a hair from a little nudge. Do you just run the calibration check every morning or do you trust it until something looks off?

Man have I been there. What finally broke the cycle for me was buying one of those laser levels with the self-leveling feature. I used to just shoot my bubble level off whatever surface seemed flat, but that laser forces you to check against the actual floor or ceiling instead of trusting one spot. Now I always double check my reference point against at least two different surfaces before I start any layout work. It sounds like overkill but it saves me from those "oh no" moments where I realize I been working off a bad assumption for an hour.
