Unpopular opinion: a 30 year finish guy in Grand Rapids told me to stop sanding past 180 grit on face frames
I thought he was lazy and kept going to 220 on a maple run anyway. Grain raise showed up after the first coat on 6 doors and I stripped them back to 180, so now I'm wondering how many of you stop there too.
Does the grit depend on the finish too, like maybe water based needs a different stop than oil? Taking his idea further, I bet the shop's humidity plays into grain raise as much as the paper does. Seems like the old guy learned it the hard way and just never explained the why.
