Question about 3/4 ply vs solid pine for shop cabinets
I had to pick between 3/4 birch ply and solid pine boards for a run of shop cabinets in my garage last month. I went with the ply because it stays flat and I didn't want to deal with movement on wide door panels. Six cabinets later, the boxes are square and the drawers slide smooth, but I'm second guessing how the ply edges look on the open shelves. I banded them with 1/4 pine strips and it came out okay, just a lot more sanding than I planned. Cost was about $60 a sheet at my yard here in Columbus versus roughly $30 for the pine boards, so the ply ran me near $300 total. Curious what you all use for shop work where looks matter a little but not a ton. Any of you go pine and regret it after a couple humid summers?
