Heard a guy at a shop talk say drawbore pins are overrated

I was at a shop talk over in Grand Rapids last month and this old timer said drawbore pins are overrated, that he just uses regular clamps and biscuits. It got me thinking because I've been doing through-tenons with drawbore pins for the last 5 years on my dining table builds. But he had a point about how hard it is to get the holes right every time. Has anyone else ditched drawbore pins after trying something simpler, or am I missing a trick to make them more reliable?
