Had a drawer front explode on me this morning in Green Bay
Was installing a shaker style cabinet in a kitchen remodel when the MDF panel just split right down the middle from the humidity. Switched to 3/4 ply with a solid wood face frame after that, anyone else stop using MDF for painted cabinets after a bad batch?

You ever notice how everything's just made cheaper now, even the stuff that's supposed to last? I switched to ply and solid wood after a whole batch of MDF cabinets swelled up on a job a couple years back, never looked back. It's like the whole industry just decided we'd rather save a buck than have things hold up.

Honestly, @william320 you're right but I think the real shift is less about cutting corners and more about planned timelines, almost everything now is made with a specific lifespan in mind so you're forced to buy again. It's not just cheaper materials, it's entire products engineered to fail right after the warranty runs out.
