Blew a 220v line in a client's garage last Tuesday - their entire Christmas light display went dark.

Was running a new outlet for a fridge and nicked a live wire with my spade bit. Now I triple check the breaker panel before drilling into any wall, no matter how many times I've done it. Anyone else learn power layout the hard way?

Ask @haydenburns if his buddy pulled a permit for that shower job? Cause that 220 line running through a wet area sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Did they at least GFCI protect that mess before they drywalled over it?

My buddy runs a rental maintenance company and told me he found a 220 volt line running through a hollow shower wall last month. He said the previous owner just drilled a hole and ran the wire with no conduit or anything. Makes you wonder how many houses are out there with some scary amateur wiring hiding behind the drywall. I read somewhere that something like 30% of house fires start from electrical issues, so your story hits close to home. Glad you caught it before it caught fire.
