Wasted $30 on a fancy journal that bled through on page one

I grabbed one of those popular dotted journals from a local shop near me, spent $30 on it because the cover looked nice. Got home, tested a basic ballpoint pen on the first page, and the ink bled through to the next sheet. Totally killed my motivation to start my monthly spread. Anyone else had this issue with a so called premium brand?

Did you try a different pen before giving up on it? I had a similar thing happen once, turned out the paper was fine but my cheap pen was the issue.

Oh yeah, tried three pens and it turned out the fourth was the magical one. Guess my handwriting just has expensive taste.
