Update: I wasted 8 months trying to make my bullet journal look pretty before I figured out I was doing it wrong
I started my journal in January and spent most nights drawing little banners and coloring in my mood trackers with Tombow markers instead of actually using the thing. Last Tuesday I flipped back through it and saw I had only written down like 12 actual tasks in 3 whole months. Does anyone else treat this as an art project first and a planner second, or is it just me?
Been there, did the same thing for almost a year. What finally worked for me was setting a rule that the journal only gets pretty after the day's stuff is written down, so the notes come first and the decorating is the reward. I also stopped doing full weekly spreads and just made a simple list page at the start of each week, takes like two minutes. Try a plain notebook for one month with nothing but a pen and see how much more you actually get done. The fancy layouts can always come back later once the habit sticks. You didn't waste 8 months, you just learned what doesn't work for you, which is half the battle with these things.
