Took me 2 hours to fix my monthly spread because I drew the grid in pen before counting the days

I was so proud of my ruler lines until I got to the 31st and realized the box ran off the page, so I had to white it out and redraw the whole thing. Does anyone sketch the layout in pencil first or am I just too confident with a Sharpie?
