Sitting in a Panera in Boise, a lady's $4 planner flip made me rethink my whole weekly spread
I was in the Panera on Fairview in Boise about 6 weeks ago, just scribbling my weekly log while waiting on a sandwich. A lady at the next table kept flipping her planner open and shut, and I finally peeked because she was doing it so fast. She had one spread with 7 tiny boxes, one per day, and everything went in those boxes, no dailies, no collections, nothing. I use dailies, a future log, and 3 trackers, and I still forget half my stuff. So now I'm stuck on this: is the fancy multi-page setup actually helping me, or am I just decorating instead of doing? Part of me says a plain weekly spread keeps you honest because there's nowhere to hide. The other part says my trackers are the only reason I drink enough water and call my mom. Where do you all land on this? Simple one-page weeks or the full stack of spreads?
Stop blaming the setup when the real problem is you not wanting to do the work. That lady with the 7 boxes probably forgot to call her mom for three weeks straight and her water bottle sat full on the counter. One page sounds clean until you realize you dropped half your stuff and there was no tracker to catch it. Drinking water and keeping up with people you love are habits, not opinions, and habits need a spot to live or they die. Writing the same five things in a box every day is not decorating, it is called showing up, and if your fancy pages are what make you show up then they are earning their keep.
