I started matching highlighter shades to priority levels and my brain just GETS it.

How did you get it to click, because my highlighter system just makes my page look like a neon disaster?

Honestly I'm gonna go against the grain here and say the neon disaster thing might actually be the problem. When everything is highlighted nothing really stands out right? Your brain gets used to all those colors and stops treating them as special. I used to do the same thing purple for terms green for dates yellow for main ideas and after a few pages it all just blended into a messy rainbow. Now I only highlight maybe 2-3 things per page max and I use the same color for everything. If it's important it gets one pass of the marker, if it's not it stays white. Way less wild on the eyes and my notes actually make sense when I flip back through them.

Wait, I kinda love when a page looks like a neon disaster! I mean, all those bright colors help me see different info at a glance. Like, I use one color for big facts and another for questions I have. It might look messy, but for review, my eyes just go to the right spots. Idk, maybe that chaos makes the important stuff pop out more when I need it.
