PSA: Don't buy those fancy $12 bullet journal pens from the craft store

Last month I walked into a Michael's and grabbed a pack of four 'artist grade' fineliners for $12.99. I figured they'd be perfect for my weekly spreads. After three days the black one was already drying out and the blue one bled right through my Leuchtturm1917 pages. I wasted $12.99 on pens that lasted maybe a week. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific cheap brand that won't bleed?

so my friend sarah learned this the hard way too. she bought those same pens and the purple one literally exploded ink after two days, stained her whole bullet journal spread. i told her to try the papermate flair pens because they're like $5 for a pack of five and they work fine for me. she was skeptical because they're not fancy but she tried them and they don't bleed or dry out fast. the colors are pretty basic though, nothing fancy like those art pens. but honestly for everyday bullet journaling they get the job done without the headache. your mileage may vary on the paper quality but on regular notebook paper they're solid.

my first pack of those fancy pens died on me in three days too, the black one just stopped working mid-word while i was writing the date. i tried the exact same papermate flairs amy's friend did and honestly they're fine, i've been using one pack for like two months now with no issues. the colors are kind of meh, like the blue is just regular blue and the red is just regular red, nothing wild. but i'm also not doing anything crazy with my journal, just lists and the occasional doodle that looks like a potato. at this point i'm starting to think maybe the problem is just me being clumsy with nice things, not the pens themselves.
