My cousin's 5th grade BuJo made me rethink my whole layout

Went home for Thanksgiving and my 10 year old cousin showed me her bullet journal. She just had a list of stuff she wanted to do and boxes to check, no color coding, no weekly spreads, nothing fancy. It hit different because I've got 3 years of trackers and collections in mine that I barely touch, plus a whole drawer of washi tape I'm too scared to waste. She asked why I draw so many lines before writing anything, and honestly I couldn't give her a straight answer. Anyone else ever feel like they're overcomplicating the basic habit out of pure habit?

My buddy Mark spent 6 months building a whole garden planner spread in his bullet journal. He drew little pictures of every vegetable, tracked soil pH, made a harvest log, all of it. Then he went out and actually planted like 4 tomato plants in his backyard and forgot to water them for two weeks. They all died and he stopped opening the journal altogether for a month. I saw him last weekend and he just uses a sticky note on his fridge now with the word "water" and a checkmark spot. It was the same lesson your cousin gave you, just with more wilted tomato regret.
