Heard someone at a coffee shop say bullet journals are just 'fancy to-do lists' and it got under my skin

Honestly, I was sitting there trying to plan next week's spread when this guy goes 'why waste time drawing lines when a sticky note does the same thing' and I almost snapped. Has anyone else had to defend their whole system to some random person who clearly never tracked a habit for 6 months straight?

Start with showing them your six month habit tracker and watch the smugness melt off their face, that's what finally worked for me with a coworker who wouldn't drop it. @finleythomas is right about the mental clarity angle too, so after they see the grid I just say "look, it keeps my brain from exploding, that's worth the ten minutes of drawing lines." They usually nod and change the subject after that.

lmao yeah I've had some guy at a work happy hour tell me bullet journals are just "adult coloring books for people who peaked in middle school" and I wanted to throw my latte at him. Best move is to just smile and say "hey whatever works" and then pull out your journal and start rapid logging right there while they watch. They never expect you to actually use it mid-conversation. But honestly the tracker thing is the real proof - show them a mood or water tracker six months deep and they usually shut up. I just bring up the mental clarity part too, like yeah it's a list but it's my list that keeps me from melting down over grocery runs.
