Guy at the coffee shop asked why I had a ruler in my journal
Told him it's for keeping my monthly layout boxes straight, and he spent 10 minutes showing me how he uses a basic weekly spread instead. Anyone else get random strangers curious about your bujo system?

Reminds me of this time I was at a garage sale and this older lady watched me measure out my boxes with a ruler, then told me I should just use graph paper instead. I tried it once and felt like I was writing on graph paper, you know? Not the same feel at all, my monthly habit tracker needs those clean lines and empty space in the squares.

You told him it's for keeping your monthly layout boxes straight" - that got me thinking actually. I've had people try to sell me on their "simple" systems before, like they're doing me a favor by showing me a better way. The thing is, my whole setup is built around those monthly spreads with the ruler lines, and swapping to a weekly would mean losing the overview I need for tracking habits and bills. It's like telling a chef to use just salt and pepper when they clearly need a whole spice rack. I bet that guy means well, but sometimes people forget that what works for them might totally miss the point for someone else's brain.
