Friend told me my weekly spread was 'too chaotic'

She looked at my bujo and said it looked like a ransom note. Different colors, stickers everywhere, scribbles in the margins. I got defensive at first. But then I realized she was right. I was using 7 different pens for no reason. Now I stick to one blue pen and a single highlighter. My brain actually calms down when I open the page. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on their layout?

7 different pens is wild lmao. My friend told me my habit tracker looked like a conspiracy theory board and honestly she was right, I had like 4 different colors going just for one section. Good for you for simplifying though, I bet it feels way less overwhelming now.

Totally agree, I've noticed this thing where people think more colors or more options equals more control, but it just makes everything messy. It's like the grocery store having 50 kinds of ketchup, you just stand there confused instead of grabbing one. Same with those apps that have a million settings, you end up tweaking them forever and never actually using the app. Habits are the same way, the simpler the system the more likely you'll stick with it. I used to have like 10 different categories and colors for my workouts and it just stressed me out. Now I just use one color for all exercise and it's way easier to track.

Last year I switched my pantry to just one kind of pasta and one kind of rice and it saved me like 10 minutes every time I cooked. People just get addicted to having options because it feels like you're making progress when you're really just making a mess. The trend in every part of life now is maximum complexity for minimum actual improvement. It's like how my neighbor has six different lawn care apps on his phone but his yard looks exactly the same as mine and I just water it when it looks dry. The simpler you make something the more you actually do it, whether that's tracking habits or making dinner.
