Why I stopped fighting the envelope method after a brutal Target trip
Last Saturday I was at the Target on Broadway and my card got declined at the register in front of like 12 people. I had $47 left in my account but the total was $63 because I forgot to check. After standing there like an idiot I finally gave in and started doing the cash envelope thing my mom has been pushing for years. Now I pull out $200 cash for groceries every Monday and it feels way more real than tapping my phone. Has anyone else had a humiliating store moment that finally made you switch things up?

Oh did you also get that moment where you just wanna crawl under the register? Mine was at Walmart with my kid screaming and the stupid card reader glitching. I switched to cash after that too and honestly it changed everything. It stings way more handing over actual twenties than tapping my phone. Like I feel the money leaving my hand. Now I keep my grocery cash in a little folder and when its gone its gone, no cheating. I even went back to writing my budget in a notebook because the app was too easy to ignore. Hope your Target trip didn't ruin your whole day!

Sixty dollars in twenties feels different than sixty on a screen. You're right that handing over cash triggers something in your brain, but that's exactly why I avoid it now. Missing out on 2% cash back on every grocery trip adds up fast, and I'd rather let autopay handle my budget than trust myself with a paper envelope system.
