Warning: That $3 envelope system saved me $200 in two weeks on takeout

I was blowing through my food budget every single week until I started putting actual cash in labeled envelopes, and the physical act of seeing that money leave my hand made me cook at home instead, how do you guys handle the psychological pull of swiping a card?

Physical act of seeing that money leave my hand" sounds way more dramatic than just paying for lunch.

Doesn't it feel like cash makes you actually think about what you're buying though, @blakem82? I mean sure it's dramatic but that's kind of the point. When I hand over twenties for lunch it hits different than just tapping my phone. Plastic makes it too easy to ignore how much you're spending. Cash has a way of keeping you honest with yourself. I bet a lot of folks would eat out less if they had to peel off bills every time.
